OUR STORY

A brief history

The practice of shaving and styling facial hair is believed to have begun as early as 30, 000 B.C. with men using flint razors to style their unruly hair.

The ancient Egyptians viewed hairlessness as a sign of divinity. However, this did not stop the ‘upper crust’ from wearing fake beards on special occasions.

Throughout European history facial hair has played a number of different roles in the lives of men. Periodically throughout history beards were taxed and removed from those that did not have the appropriate status or were not considered to be spiritual enough.

The 1950’s saw the re-birth of facial adornments like the moustache, sideburns, soul patch etc. Such decorations have not been seen since the Victorian period.

The 20th and 21st century has seen the separation between good and evil played out on the faces of men, with notorious leaders such as Hitler, Stalin, Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden being the poster boys for both facial hair and crimes against humanity. Whilst facial hair does not instantly result in the presumption that the person is ‘evil’, it has been found to insight associations that once did not exist.
